Taikopalooza Travel Information

Holy smokes... we are only 6 weeks away from Taikopalooza... !!!

So I know a lot of you are getting travel organized and I wanted to share a couple of tips that might help!

The Hotel:

  1. Please remember if you are arriving early, you need to book your extra days with the hotel yourself.

  2. Bring earplugs! Especially if you are sharing a room with someone, a good set of earplugs is STRONGLY recommended. I've heard horror stories from participants not being able to sleep because their roommate was snoring all night. It's a cheap investment that will save you stress and sleep, and also potentially save the relationship between you and your roommate(s)!

Shuttle Service:

  1. We are organizing shuttle service from Hotel Garni to the dojo. If you are planning to stay near Hotel Garni, you just need to be at the hotel at the appropriate time in the mornings for pickup.

  2. If you are not staying near Hotel Garni, you will have to arrange your own transportation to and from the dojo.

Travel from the airport to Ulm:

  1. We have three airports that are relatively close. Memmingen (FMM), Stuttgart (STR) and Munich (MUC).

  • Ryanair flies to Memmingen (40 minutes by car) and this is the closest airport. However, transfer service is more limited (only Flixbus). Although it is the closest (distance) it is also the longest transit time to Ulm because the bus has to go to Ravensburg and then back to Ulm. From the bus station is is a short walk to pick up the Strassenbahn Linie 1 that will take you to the dojo (take the Strassenbahn Linie 1 towards Söflingen, exit the Strassenbahn at Magirusstrasse and then walk about 5 minutes to the dojo).

  • Stuttgart is next closest (45 minutes by car). From the airport you have 2 options: Train or Flixbus. Flixbus is the least expensive (single ticket) option and the fastest, but you will still need to get the Strassenbahn linie 1 to the dojo from the bus station (take the Strassenbahn Linie 1 towards Söflingen, exit the Strassenbahn at Magirusstrasse and then walk about 5 minutes to the dojo).. For train, you will need to take the metro to the train station and then from there take the train to Ulm. Book the 'Baden Würtemmberg' ticket (click for website) for 24€ and you can travel with up to 4 additional people for just 7€ per person. This will also include your travel from the airport to the train station, and from the train station to the dojo (take the Strassenbahn Linie 1 towards Söflingen, exit the Strassenbahn at Magirusstrasse and then walk about 5 minutes to the dojo).

  • Munich is the farthest from Ulm (90 minutes by car) but also has the best connections for train service. The train picks up directly from the airport - no shuttle to the train station needed! Book the Bayern ticket and you can travel with up to 4 more people for 11€ per person. Although we are located in Baden Würtemmberg, this ticket will allow you to travel to Ulm since we are right on the border. This ticket will also include your travel from the airport to the train station, and from the train station to the dojo (take the Strassenbahn Linie 1 towards Söflingen, exit the Strassenbahn at Magirusstrasse and then walk about 5 minutes to the dojo).

We have tons more stuff coming up, so please stay posted! Food, community building groups, and workshop assignments are all in the works. Can't wait to see you all!
